Active in the forestry sector since 1988 as an individual, Jean Pierre Simon has developed the timber trade, from logging to delivery to Belgian sawmills, in both the north and south of the country. He acquired SA EXECO in 2000 and breathed new life into the company by extending its reach and diversifying its niche markets.
Following the storm that hit the Vosges in December 1999, the company shipped trainloads of fir trees to Italy, and succeeded in winning the loyalty of Italian customers, who were keen to buy larch and Douglas fir from our Ardennes forests for use in chalets, bridges and roofing.
Since 2004, the company has been exporting raw and sawn timber to Spain: lumber, packaging, formwork and boards, fresh or dried, treated, impregnated or fresh, are delivered by truckload to the regions of Galicia, Cantabria, the Basque Country, Catalonia and central Spain.
In 2005, Execo, via its director Jean Pierre Simon, played an active role in setting up ERDA, a green electricity, cogeneration and wood pellet production plant located on the Bertrix industrial estate, as a consultant for the construction of the plant and the supply of raw materials (annual consumption of 240,000 tonnes of sawdust and 125,000 tonnes of biomass).
Since 2010, Execo has been focusing on exports to China and India, shipping softwood and hardwood lumber by container to China's main ports, including Dalian, Quingdao and Nansha. Working with forwarding agents based in the port of Antwerp, Execo delivers large volumes of sawmill-quality poplar, pine, spruce, larch, oak, beech and ash logs to its Asian customers, meeting all quality and phytosanitary requirements.
